| Dr.
Hans Diehl, DrHSc, MPH, CNS—The Director of the Lifestyle Medicine Institute in Loma
Linda, California, and is the founder of the CHIP* program. His doctorate in Health Science
and Masters in Public Health Nutrition are from Loma Linda University.
He directed the research and education programs at the Nathan Pritikin Longevity Center
in California and was a post-doctoral research fellow in cardiovascular epidemiology supported
by the National Institutes of Health. He was also a post-doctoral scholar at UCLA.
As a best-selling author, a researcher, clinician, dynamic speaker and top-ranking motivator,
Dr. Diehl has lectured to corporations and governments and has presented seminars on four continents.
He developed the Coronary Health Improvement Project based on the foundation that according
to the U.S. Surgeon General, 75% of all Western diseases have been found to be "lifestyle"
related. Dr. Diehl's pioneering efforts with Dr. Nathan Pritikin and Dr. Denis Burkitt have
shown conclusively that many of today's diseases are truly reversible through some simple lifestyle
changes.
As
Dr. Diehl likes to say, "Health is not everything, but without it, everything is nothing."
The CHIP program (Coronary Health Improvement Program) itself was born in the winter of
1988 when Dr. Diehl was invited to conduct a 4-week lifestyle change program in Creston, British
Columbia, a community of about 5,000. Four hundred persons accepted the challenge to take responsibility
for their health and became charter members of the first CHIP program.
Following the Creston experience Dr. Diehl went on to conduct multiple live programs in
Canada, India, Australia and the United States. Because he cannot respond to all the invitations
for live CHIP programs, Dr. Diehl decided to produce a Video-CHIP series that is being used
very effectively in a variety of settings. Here is the CHIP
web site.
